Redistricting

Redistricting addresses the school attendance boundaries to best utilize space available as well as identify potential facility needs.

Where do students live and where do they attend school? Is housing growth occurring in the District and how will it impact school capacity? Do any patterns emerge based on student attributes? Are schools balanced based on socio-economics?

Criteria is prioritized to develop redistricting options and may include functional capacity targets, travel time to school, keeping neighborhoods together, moving the least amount of students, better feeder patterns—the list goes on.

It is important to note that all criteria may not be met and that some may be in opposition to each other. It’s probably one of the most difficult tasks a District can take on, but a very necessary one when faced with opening new schools or closing old ones. It’s critical to keep students at the forefront of this process.
